Self-Archiving and Repository Policy

Malaysian Journal of Economic Studies (MJES) supports the dissemination of research through author self-archiving, subject to the conditions below.

1.  Version permitted for self-archiving

Authors may deposit the Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM) of their article on their personal website or in their institutional repository. The AAM is the final manuscript accepted following peer review, incorporating all required revisions, but excluding the journal’s copyediting, typesetting, formatting and pagination.

The Version of Record, including the publisher’s formatted PDF, may not be uploaded or deposited under this policy. Authors are encouraged to share the link to the article on the journal’s website.

2.  Timing of deposit and public access

The Author Accepted Manuscript may be made publicly accessible on or after the article’s official publication date in Malaysian Journal of Economic Studies (MJES). No additional embargo applies after publication.

Authors may deposit the accepted manuscript in a closed institutional repository before publication, provided that the full text remains inaccessible to the public until the official publication date.

Acceptance notices, page proofs and unpublished typeset articles must not be made publicly available.

3.  Acknowledgement and linking requirements

Every publicly accessible deposited manuscript must:

·        Clearly identify the file as the Author Accepted Manuscript.

·        Acknowledge Institutions and Economies as the original source of publication.

·        Include the full published citation, including the volume, issue, page range or article number, where applicable.

·        Provide the article’s DOI as a clickable link, where available, and a link to the published article on the journal’s website.

The following statement should accompany the deposited manuscript:

“This is the Author Accepted Manuscript of an article published in Institutions and Economies. The original publication is available at https://mjes.um.edu.my/. Please cite the published version: [insert full citation and DOI].”

If the DOI is not available at the time of deposit, authors should add it once it becomes available.

4.  Other repositories and platforms

Deposit of the full manuscript in subject repositories, commercial platforms or academic social networking websites requires prior written permission from the journal, unless expressly permitted under the applicable publication agreement. Authors may share the published citation and article link on these platforms.

5.  Copyright and other permissions

Self-archiving does not alter the copyright arrangements established in the publication agreement or grant additional rights to reproduce, adapt or redistribute the article.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that any third-party material included in the deposited manuscript is covered by the necessary permissions.

6.  Policy enquiries

Authors with questions about permitted versions, deposit locations or funder requirements should contact the Editorial Office of Malaysian Journal of Economic Studies (MJES) before making their manuscript publicly accessible.
