Abstract

The increasing impact of climate change has gained global attention and has led to various mitigation measures being taken to address it. Mitigation measures through education, especially Climate Change Education, are one of the measures to increase public readiness to act on climate change. The understanding of the impact of food consumption on climate change should be enhanced to form a generation that adopts sustainable diets. The shift from unsustainable dietary patterns to sustainable diets can reduce the carbon footprint of foods that contribute to climate change. A low understanding and awareness of the importance of adopting a sustainable diet in mitigating the effects of climate change is a challenge that needs to be overcome. This article reviews the issues and challenges in implementing Climate Change Education which is an important medium for improving sustainable dietary practices. Among the issues and challenges identified are the knowledge and willingness of teachers to implement climate change education. In addition, the issue of under skilled teachers integrating knowledge about climate change-related food consumption in teaching is also a challenge. Environmental conditions that do not support sustainable dietary practices such as food availability, advertising, and economic affordability are also challenges in improving sustainable dietary practices. Therefore, measures should be taken to improve the readiness and skills of teachers to integrate knowledge related to sustainable diet practices into the teaching session. In addition, efforts to provide an environment that supports sustainable dietary practices need to be stepped up. This is because sustainable diet practices can reduce the impact of carbon footprint generation and can improve the health of the community in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
